Job Description

Position Summary:

  • Provides pastoral care to the patients, families, and staff of the Hospital.
  • Works to increase awareness of the role of spiritual and religious values in patient care.
  • Provides education for staff and local clergy.
  • Conducts research into the clinical care of the sick.


  • Master's degree in theological studies (which includes 72 semester credit hours or 108 quarter credits) from an institution accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent from an accredited theological school. 
  • Minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited center, of which at least three (3) must have an emphasis in pediatric pastoral care or equivalent hospital pediatric experience.  This equates to a minimum of one (1) year experience required.
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or National Association of Jewish Chaplains.  Certification required within two years of hire date.
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical pediatric experience.
  • Palliative Care (PC) certification required for those hired to work with the PC team.  This certification required within two years of hire date or within two years of achieving board certified chaplain status.
