40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.


Responsible for coordinating and processing the routine, STAT, and non-routine release of health information for all purposes, including legal, medical, regulatory, and payer requests in accordance with Akron Children’s policies and guidelines, federal regulations (HIPAA) and state laws. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all state/federal laws and regulations and Akron Children's Hospital policies and procedures pertaining to the release of protected health information (PHI). Protects patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of release of all PHI. May be required to assist in training new release of information technicians. Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience OR Associate’s degree in health information or health-related field required and a minimum of 0-1 years experience required.  RHIT credentialed (or eligible) preferred.  Ability to determine appropriate prioritization of tasks and to resolve problems with sound judgment. Commissioned as a Notary Public or obtain within 6 months. Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel. Typing skills of 30 WPM required. Medical terminology preferred. Ability to focus on very detailed information. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and time management skills required. Customer service skills, knowledge of HIPAA and ORC preferred.
