Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgeon
Cleveland Clinic and Akron Children’s Hospital have recently expanded their 3-year heart surgery collaboration to build a comprehensive and unified pediatric cardiac and adult congenital program. Through the collaboration, we are seeking a Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgeon who will serve as an integral member of the joint team. This position will be employed by and primarily based at Akron Children’s Hospital’s Akron campus.
Akron Children’s is the largest provider of pediatric services in Northern Ohio and is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the region. The world class heart surgery program at Cleveland Clinic is provided by the Cleveland Clinic Congenital Heart Surgery team. Akron Children’s Hospital is a well-respected institution with a reputation for excellence in clinical care and patient outcomes.
Working as a joint team, children and adults born with heart disease receive comprehensive state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment close to home through our northern Ohio congenital heart surgical, quality and research collaborative that includes Akron Children’s Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Clinic Children’s and Metro Health Medical Center.
The ideal candidate will assume co-responsibility for the treatment of complex congenital heart defects in newborns, children and adolescents as well as adults under the supervision of senior faculty. The candidate should have a strong interest for providing clinical services, teaching and research. Duties will include participation in clinical, research and educational activities as well as cardiac transplantation. Additional requirements: Completed an additional fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery; Board Certified / Board Eligible American Board Thoracic Surgery; and a valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Ohio or eligibility to obtain the Ohio medical license. Desirable interests of the successful candidate include clinical and/or basic science research as well as adult congenital heart disease.
Joint faculty appointments at ranks commensurate with experience will be with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Northeast Ohio Medical University.
The successful candidate will have a joint appointment with Akron Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic’s Heart and Vascular Institute. With strong leadership and the collective talent and resources of both organizations working in a joint effort, the program has tremendous growth potential. This position includes opportunities for collaboration with staff in the Cleveland Clinic Heart and Vascular Institute, whose adult Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery program has been ranked 1st in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for more than 20 years and has been a driving force behind the STS database.
