Job Description

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a BC/BE pediatric hematologist/oncologist with neuro-oncology as a clinical focus who will serve as a faculty member at the assistant/associate professor level. Fellowship training in pediatric neuro-oncology is desirable.  This individual will provide clinical care, actively participate in clinical research and quality improvement work, and teach medical students, pediatric house officers and fellows.  Akron Children’s Hospital is a teaching hospital with an AGMCE accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program and a medical school affiliation with Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Programs at the Akron Children’s Hospital Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders include hematology, oncology, stem cell and marrow transplantation, a state-funded sickle cell program and regional hemostasis and thrombosis center.  Hematology/oncology care is provided at our hospital in Akron, our Beeghly campus in Boardman, Ohio, and satellite clinics.  The Hematology/Oncology team is currently comprised of nine faculty members, 15 advanced practice providers and 3 fellows.

Each year the center cares for approximately 100 new oncology patients, 15 stem cell/marrow transplant patients, 170 sickle cell patients and 450 bleeding disorder patients.  The staff also manages 8,500 outpatient visits and 5000 inpatient encounters annually.  Akron Children’s Hospital is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, a pediatric transplant center approved by the National Marrow Donor Program, one of only 9 pediatric cancer centers in the country verified by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and offers access to phase 1 agents as a member of the Advanced Cancer Therapies Network.
