Dr. Kevin Watson Jr., MD, Pediatric Gastroenterologist & Physician Informaticist, knows this, crediting Akron Children’s tuition reimbursement as crucial in helping him complete his graduate work at OSU.
“Akron Children’s has supported me tremendously over the years,” Dr. Watson shared. “A major why is through clinical informatics. I had limited knowledge about the field when I started working here, but through mentorship and advancement, I am now an assistant director of clinical informatics and have my board certification. I did graduate schoolwork through OSU and received tuition reimbursement for part of this.”
Not only is gaining the right support invaluable as an early physician, but so is advancing your skill set. “I’ve been able to foster my love of technology and artificial intelligence, as well as further my education in an active role in Med Ed,” Dr. Watson said.
When Dr. Watson isn’t building in time to advance his skill set, he furthers his understanding of IQI and the P2P program, which has led to him publishing work. How does he manage to handle so much on the job? He shares that the Akron Children’s community is big on taking care of its people.
Dr. Watson’s advice to early physicians looking to grow their career is to just go for it. “I have been given so many opportunities along the way. I would not have imagined taking the path I’m on right now when I first started—but I am loving the direction I’m going in.”
