“If you are thinking about taking a job here at Akron Children’s, don’t hesitate. This will be an amazing experience. There is something so special about working here that you really can’t find anywhere else. The people are amazing and the patients are great. You’ll be challenged in a professional way, and you’ll be given the opportunity to grow safely where you can just really expand your wings and develop who you are in a great place to be. It’s worth it. You should come.”

Jackie Lickliter, DO
Pediatrician
“The beauty of Akron Children’s being a freestanding medical center is that everything for us is right here and everything is dedicated to kids. All of our specialists specialize just in pediatrics, and they’re all right here with us...even in Beeghly, our specialists are right upstairs. If I have a question or just need to run something by someone without a formal consult, I can just go upstairs and talk to my colleagues. It’s great for patients because all of their care happens right here. It’s convenient for them which makes it convenient for us as the provider.”

Jennifer Baccon, MD, PhD
Chair, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
"Akron Children’s Hospital truly has the best of both worlds in terms of that small-town feel as well as the cutting-edge technology that is present at the leading children’s hospitals in the nation. We are one of those leading children’s hospitals, and that’s evidenced every time I go out to a national meeting and talk to my colleagues. And although they may have thought about Akron Children’s as a small-town pediatric hospital, once I share with them the breadth of our services, the number of beds we have and the care we deliver across the region, it gives a big impression that we are one of the major players on the national level."

John Crow, MD, FAAP, FACS
Pediatric Surgeon; Chairman of Surgery; Associate Chief Medical Officer
"Akron Children’s is a pretty incredible place to be, and the reason I say that is because of the people. Everybody takes pride in working at Akron Children’s. It’s a relatively small community. It’s been a part of the community for over 100 years and people really do take a lot of pride for being here. So, when you come in at all levels, people smile, they really want to help you take care of the kids. Anybody who comes in from somewhere else within two hours of being in our institution feels that — that friendliness and that culture."

Yolanda Moore-Forbes, MD, FAAP
Pediatrician
“You have to really go where your heart tells you to go — and if you want a hospital — Akron Children’s is one of the best. It’s one of the fastest growing children’s hospitals in the country. And if you want the support of your colleagues, if you want the support of the administration, Akron Children’s is for you. If you want an area in which to live, even outside of the Akron city itself, [there are] several suburbs that you have great access to mostly by highways. Akron is one of the easiest cities to get around. I work about 35 minutes from my home, but it’s mostly highway driving so it's very accessible. There are lots of things to do within the city, lots of park systems if you’re somebody that likes to spend time outdoors. But there are other things to do in Cleveland, Canton and some of the other surrounding areas."

Michael Forbes, MD, FAAP
Director, Clinical Research & Outcomes Analysis, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; Pediatric Intensivist
“My message to young people who come here is to be fearless. There’s no one in this organization who will not take the time to mentor you.”
Vast resources and support
Since 1890, we’ve been committed to remaining a freestanding pediatric hospital (now two campuses) serving Northeast Ohio. Children aren’t just a segment of our focus, they are our focus. The resources available to our physicians, the cutting-edge technology, the collaboration from all departments and the cohesive nature in which we work allow us to live our mission and truly treat every child as we would our own.
Complex cases, teaching and learning
These aren’t your basic, run-of-the-mill cases. These are the challenges you studied for, the challenges that push you to excellence. These are the families who travel distances to see you and to be treated at Akron Children's Hospital.
As a teaching hospital with one of the largest pediatric training programs in the country, we partner with area medical schools. We are devoted to providing countless opportunities to learn, teach, grow, lead and, ultimately, enhance pediatric medicine in our area and around the world.
Physician benefits
In addition to our comprehensive benefits program (download brochure), we offer our providers occurrence-based malpractice insurance, a 457(b) plan, generous vacation and holidays, an annual continuing medical education allowance and reimbursement for work-related expenses (Ohio license, DEA and first-time board exam fees). We also support our physicians with a wide array of special programs and services beyond traditional benefits.
