Meet Dr. Julie Samora, Chair of the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine here at Akron Children’s. As a member of the leadership team, Dr. Samora values the collaboration of her team and the support from fellow leadership members.
“I have the opportunity to meet with Todd Ritzman almost weekly,” she shares of meeting with Akron Children’s Surgeon in Chief and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. “He provides guidance and mentorship regarding decisions I make every day.”
As far as workplace culture goes, it’s something Dr. Samora is grateful for, noting that her teams love what they do—and it shows. She admires the strides they’re all making, both in their careers and in their field.
Orthopedic surgery remains a male-dominated specialty. There are only 7% of women in the field. Having the opportunity to come in as a leader of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine is truly an honor. They’re truly team-based specialties.
