How Joshua Balances Work and Life at Akron Children's

Certified Medical Assistant Joshua Woods discusses time off and finding the right schedule fit for his family.

After all, everything is connected. Joshua Woods shares how he uses his PTO to spend time with family and tradeoff childcare with his wife, who’s a fellow Akron Children’s employee.

I usually spend time on my days off enjoying the outdoors locally, or exploring somewhere new on vacation,” Joshua says. “Often, you will find my family (my wife Irene, my son Liam, age six, and daughter Aubrey, age three) at Mill Creek Park, hiking a trail, looking for wildlife and admiring the flowers in the gardens.

Have a healthy work/life balance

Joshua can enjoy even more time with his kids thanks to a flexible schedule he shares with his wife. “My wife, Irene, also works at Akron Children's, part-time second shift (Medical Technologist, MV Lab). On the days she works, my manager and clinical coordinator allow me to have a flexible schedule to leave work and take care of my kids at home while she’s working.”
