Summary:
The Director of Biomedical Engineering (Healthcare Technology Management) is responsible for leading and overseeing the strategic planning, implementation and maintenance of biomedical equipment and systems including biomedical engineering initiatives. This role ensures that biomedical technology aligns with organizational goals, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, FDA etc.) and industry best practices to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. This role includes responsibility for optimizing service models and service contracts and is a key contributor to capital equipment planning.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute long-term strategies for healthcare technology management, including procurement, maintenance, risk assessment, and innovation.
- Technology Optimization: Oversee the lifecycle management of medical devices and ensure focus on continuous improvement of processes. Work in close collaboration with Information Services, Clinical Operations and others to assure optimal integration, functioning and availability of medical devices.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, such as FDA, HIPAA, Joint Commission and Cybersecurity to maintain patient safety and data security. Develop and implement consistent policies and procedures that guide the support functions of the Biomedical Engineering Department.
- Budget & Resource Management: Develop financial plans, manage budgets, and optimize resources to maximize cost-effectiveness and return on investment.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Relations: Collaborate with medical device manufacturers, HTM/IT vendors, healthcare administrators, and clinical teams to streamline technology solutions.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled team of healthcare technology professionals, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
- Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics to track technology efficiency, patient safety outcomes, and operational performance.
- Emerging Technologies: Stay ahead of industry trends, such as AI-driven healthcare solutions, telemedicine, and IoT-enabled medical devices, to drive innovation.

Technical Expertise
- Knowledge of patient care equipment and hospital IT systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry trends, innovations, and digital transformation strategies
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement policies and procedures.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical principles to non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to supervise, direct, evaluate, and delegate work and responsibilities to subordinate personnel.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend solutions.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, HTM, IT or a healthcare field required.
- Certification: Certified Healthcare Technology Manager is preferred.
- Experience in medical or technical equipment operations and maintenance management
- Five years' management in a healthcare IT or Biomed/HTM environment required.
- Familiarity with applicable regulatory and inspecting agency requirements.
