Summary:
The Director of Volunteer Services is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational oversight of all volunteer programs across the pediatric hospital. This includes managing volunteer recruitment, training, engagement, and retention, as well as supervising staff and volunteers in areas such as respite centers, gift shops, information desks, and specialized pediatric support programs.Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the review and effectiveness of Volunteer Services, Information Desks and the ACH Gift Shop.
2. Design and implement volunteer programs aligned with hospital needs and patient and family centered care.
3. Benchmark Volunteer Services programs to the local, regional and national Children's Hospitals and participates in Volunteer Services forums to ensure the most up to date practices and programs.
4. Oversee recruitment and screening, on-boarding, development, evaluation, and record management of volunteers.
5. Supervises, develops and directs Volunteer Services employee engagement and recognition programs.
6. Cultivate relationships with community organizations, corporate partners and the Akron Children's Hospital Foundation to expand donor support and volunteer engagement.
7. Supports non-traditional volunteer programs such as Doggie Brigade, Student Experiences, Job Shadows and seasonal events.
8. Coordinates efforts of the Women's Board including the Holiday Tree Festival Committee, Mahoning Valley volunteers and Ronald McDonald House organization via the Volunteer Council.
9. Advises and collaborates with the Women's Board on operations of the ACH Gift Shop and hospital events, such as the Holiday Tree Festival and recognition events.
10. Adheres to legal, regulatory and hospital policies regarding volunteer services.
11. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for information desk functions, including visitor check-in, wayfinding, and emergency protocols.
12. Coordinate with Public Safety, Nursing and other hospital departments to ensure seamless operations of the Information Desks.
13. Prepares and manages departmental budget, ensuring responsible use of donor funds.
14. Other duties as required.
Other information:
Technical Expertise
1. Experience working with volunteers, fundraising, or public relations is required.
2. Experience in volunteer management is required.
3. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
4. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
5. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Proficiency in volunteer management database is preferred.
Education and Experience
1. Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, Non-profit Management, or related field is required. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, eight (8) years of direct volunteer management experience will be considered.
2. Years of relevant experience: 5 years of related experience in a healthcare organization is required, with pediatric hospital experience preferred.
3. Years of experience: 3 years of supervisory experience is required.
