Summary:

The Food Pantry Coordinator will manage the day-to-day logistics and operations of the Hospital's on-site food pantry, ensure compliance with all state, federal and local regulations, assist clients/patient families who are in need of food assistance, educate and manage interns or volunteers to support pantry operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the procurement of food from Akron Canton Regional Foodbank (ACRFB) or other donor organizations.
  2. Manages food orders from ACRFB, which encompasses place orders, coordinate pick-up, delivery and receipt of items, and organizes the placement of deliveries for distribution or storage.
  3. Responsible for tracking inventory, assessing pantry needs, and ensuring that all required goods are available for client distribution.
  4. Ensures the safe receiving of food, including safe unloading and reloading of food and materials and ensures safe food handling, including daily temperature monitoring.
  5. Coordinates all aspects of food procurement from donor agencies or organizations, including receipt of deliveries or donations, weighing, recording, and providing receipts to donors.
  6. Serves as the Hospital's primary contact with the ACRFB, maintaining agency status in good standing and providing reports as needed.
  7. Serves as the pantry's ServSafe point of contact, ensuring that food and health safety requirements are being met and obtaining official records and documents required by federal, state, and local regulations.
  8. Provide accurate documentation to track, rotate, and store inventory in compliance with local health department and ServSafe guidelines.
  9. Maintains good working relationships with ACRFB, donors, all vendors and volunteers.
  10. Provides feedback of any issues or concerns to supervisor.
  11. Oversees client food distribution, including set-up and implementation of client shopping and completion of required state and federal client forms. Maintains accurate client records.
  12. Collaborate with Support Services' dieticians and the Education & Wellness Garden Coordinator to facilitate connecting patient families in need of nutrition education and food resources from the garden.
  13. Ensures interns and volunteers understand processes and procedures, have adequate direction, and are empowered to complete their responsibilities.
  14. Assesses the need for interns and volunteers to assist with operations, inventory management, and client distribution and works with Volunteer Services, universities, and public schools to recruit student interns or volunteers and ensure there is adequate support to operate the pantry.
  15. Makes recommendations to improve operations, inventory, inventory management, and storage to best meet client needs.
  16. Organizes, prioritizes, and completes multiple tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
  17. Other duties as required.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience in public health and community health education is preferred.
  2. Travel and valid Ohio driver's license is required.
  3. May be required to drive a hospital vehicle.
  4. Strong organizational and communication skills
  5. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  6. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  7. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.] or similar software is required.
  8. Experience with web and data analysis is preferred.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, or related field is required;
  2. Certification: ServSafe Manager certification or willingness to study and achieve certification (certification expenses will be covered) provided.
  3. Years of relevant or leadership experience: 2 years is preferred.
