Summary:
Under the direction of the Lieutenant, provide supervision of all sworn and non-sworn department employees. Enforces Hospital policies and procedures, and applicable local and state laws. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron (CHMCA). 

Responsibilities:

  1. Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict management, community outreach, customer service, collaboration, and public speaking. Deliver department and organizational messages, goals, and initiatives to assigned employees.
  2. Assists in communication and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving problems, addressing employee concerns and complaints.
  3. Monitors and maintains records of employees' work hours, including overtime, sick time, paid time off and vacation. Reviews and approves or denies routine leave requests based on departmental needs, ensuring proper coverage and operational efficiency.
  4. Plans and directs work actives of employees, monitors work assignments, ensures work assignments are complete and accurate, ensures adherence to department and hospital policies and procedures.
  5. Hands-on supervisory style, with the ability to train, develop, motivate, and evaluate staff while creating a positive, supportive, and engaging work environment.
  6. Provides initial command and control during critical incidents, ensuring unified response with other internal and external agencies.
  7. Ensures all employees have successfully completed the department field training program, annual in-service training, and professional continuing education mandates.
  8. Reviews incident reports daily, checking for accuracy, spelling, grammar, completeness. Assures appropriate addendums, attachments, etc. are completed and attached to reports.
  9. Make arrests for violations of laws or ordinances, prepare and file necessary court documents, testify in court, transport prisoners.
  10. Perform any other assigned duties/tasks related to the needs of the department, meet and maintain any performance standards established for the position.

Other information:

Education and Experience

  1. Must be 21 years of age or older at time of hire.
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. Associate degree in a related field preferred. In lieu of an Associate degree, possess a minimum of four years of job-related experience in law enforcement/private security setting, or combination of secondary education and job-related experience is required.
  4. Previous supervisory experience in law enforcement/private security setting preferred.
  5. OPOTA First Line Supervision class or equivalent preferred.
  6. Possesses a valid Ohio driver's license (and ability to obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by the CHMCA insurance carrier's requirements to operate CHMCA vehicles) and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites.
  7. Possess a current OPOTA Basic Police Academy certification.
  8. Required to achieve and maintain department's qualifying firearms standards for duration of employment.
  9. Successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
  10. Demonstrate psychological fitness commensurate with the role of an armed officer, evaluated by a psychologist designated by the Department of Public Safety Director and Chief.
  11. Possesses a valid State driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
  12. An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children's Hospital Employee Health Department.
