Summary:
The Regional Advocacy, Community Health & Infant Vitality Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve birth outcomes; sharing best practices focused on infant vitality, independently and in collaboration with community agencies, other partners and target populations; and the prevention of injuries and deaths among infants due to unsafe sleeping environments and children riding in vehicles in Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne Counties and throughout the region.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversees Akron Children's Cribs for Kid ® and Safe Sleep Program and implementation and compliance of various grant activities to support safe sleep. Track outcomes and prepares reports as needed.
2. Establish effective partnerships; serve as a liaison between Akron Children's and regional countywide infant vitality collaboratives.
3. Focus on policies, systems and environmental change objectives to support infant vitality strategies.
4. Develop and implement strategies that will strengthen partnerships focused on bet practices to improve birth outcomes.
5. Plans, implements and evaluates activities focused on infant vitality strategies, including but not limited to, breastfeeding, birth spacing and LARC (long acting reversible contraceptives) and the prevention of unsafe sleep injuries and related deaths among infants throughout the region.
6. Collaborate with Marketing and Communication on infant vitality messaging and with the Unity and Engagement department to ensure content and material is culturally competent.
7. Develop educational strategies to share best practices with regional collaboratives, community health improvement groups, agencies and organizations and the general public, specifically with populations at higher risk for infant mortality.
8. Work with Manager to develop a partnership engagement plan for identified territories.
9. Works in partnership with Manager, Director, Foundation and Grants Administration to solicit and monitor fund to support programs and activities and complete grant reports.
Other information:
Technical Expertise:
1. Experience managing or coordinating a community-based public health or community health-related program is required.
2. Experience working with all levels of an organization is required.
3. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
4. Travel with Akron Children's health system network and surrounding communities.
5. Strong written and verbal communication
6. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience:
1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Community Health Education, Public Health, or related field is required.
2. Certification: Child Passenger Safety Technician certification is required or obtained within 60 days from hire.
3. Years of relevant experience: 3 to 5 years is preferred.
