Summary:
The Research Intern supports clinical and health services research focused on primary care delivery and the connection between primary care and dermatology. This role is designed for a motivated, detail-oriented individual interested in contributing to translational, outcomes, and psychosocial research within an academic medical center.
The intern collaborates with primary care providers, dermatologists, physicians, psychologists, clinical teams, biostatisticians, and research staff to support the design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of clinical and health services studies. Projects may address access to care, health outcomes, dermatologic conditions, skin health, and integrated medical and behavioral approaches to patient care.
Responsibilities:
· Support all aspects of research projects, including IRB processes, regulatory documentation, coordination with study staff, recruitment, data collection, and participation in regular mentorship meetings with the Research Institute and primary care and/or dermatology faculty.
· Conduct literature reviews and synthesize relevant scientific, clinical, and psychological research related to primary care delivery and dermatology to inform study design, measure selection, and manuscript development.
· Support the collection, organization, validation, and analysis of clinical, behavioral, EMR, REDCap, and registry-based datasets, using quantitative and computational approaches to enhance data quality, interpretation, and research insights.
· Support patient and participant recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up activities (as applicable), with attention to dermatologic conditions, health outcomes, access to care, and ethical considerations.
· Assist in drafting and preparing research outputs, including abstracts, posters, reports, and manuscripts, for national primary care, dermatology, or medical conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
· Track research activities, attend required meetings and trainings, and coordinate research involvement across primary care, dermatology, and other medical specialties, including residents, fellows, and trainees.
· Participate in regular meetings with faculty mentors to review project progress and support alignment with divisional and institutional research priorities.
· Collaborate with the Grants and Sponsored Programs Office to learn about funding opportunities and support proposal development as appropriate.
· With mentorship, contribute to the development of a next-phase research idea or proposal, potentially aligned with primary care and dermatology research interests.
· Perform other duties as assigned to advance research productivity and programmatic goals.

Technical Expertise
· Strong interest in primary care, dermatology, clinical research, and/or health services research.
· Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
· High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Demonstrated research experience and scholarly productivity.
· Experience with statistical software and familiarity with quantitative or mixed-methods clinical data analysis.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinical and research teams.
· Prior experience in research or healthcare is desirable but not required.
· Understanding of medical terminology or prior coursework in primary care, dermatology, clinical sciences, or related fields.
· Familiarity with Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures.
Education and Experience
1. Education: Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field; enrolled in or seeking a PhD, PsyD, MD, or postgraduate degree (e.g., Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biostatistics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Health Services Research, Medicine, Public Health, or related field).
