Summary:

The Research Intern – Psychology supports clinical, behavioral health, and health services research by assisting with the planning, coordination, data collection, and dissemination of research studies. Working under the direction of faculty investigators and research staff, the intern contributes to translational and psychosocial research initiatives within an academic medical center while gaining hands-on experience in clinical research operations, data analysis, and scholarly activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the coordination and execution of clinical and behavioral health research projects, including study start-up, data collection, and ongoing study activities.
  2. Support Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, amendments, and regulatory documentation in accordance with institutional and federal guidelines.
  3. Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings to support study design, measurement selection, and research dissemination.
  4. Assist with participant recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up activities, as applicable.
  5. Collect, enter, and maintain research data using approved systems and tools while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  6. Support preparation of abstracts, posters, reports, and manuscripts for presentations and publications.
  7. Participate in research meetings, trainings, and mentorship sessions as assigned.
  8. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychologists, research coordinators, and trainees.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned to support research initiatives and departmental goals.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

  1. Basic understanding of clinical and behavioral health research principles.
  2. Familiarity with data collection methods and research databases (e.g., REDCap, electronic medical records, or similar systems).
  3. Ability to conduct literature searches using scientific and medical databases.
  4. Foundational knowledge of research compliance, ethics, and confidentiality standards.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education and Experience

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Behavioral Health, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field required;or current enrollment in a graduate or professional program in a related discipline.
  2. Years of relevant experience: Prior research, academic, or healthcare-related experience preferred but not required.
  3. Years of supervisory experience:  NA
