Summary:
Under the supervision of the Lieutenant, assists in the supervision of Public Safety employees. Enforces Hospital policies and procedures, and applicable local and state laws. Upholds the mission, vision, values and customer service standards of Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron (CHMCA).

Responsibilities:
1. Supervises assigned employees

2. Manages day to day activities including creating and maintaining fair and effective schedules and assignments, including time off requests, conducting daily Roll Call and assigning officers to their posts.

3. Performs the job duties of Officer and Dispatcher when required.

4. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by Supervision or Command Staff.

Other information:
Technical Expertise
1. Experience responding to critical incidents, acting as senior officer in a tactical or emergency situation until relieved by a higher-ranking officer.

2. Experience reviewing incident reports on a daily basis. Checking for accuracy, spelling, grammar, completeness, skill gaps, trends, and other relevant information that would reasonably be reported to Command Staff. Assures appropriate addendums, attachments, etc. are completed and attached to reports.

3. Experience making arrests and/or transporting arrestees when appropriate and being able to affect the physical arrest of a suspect.

4. Experience appearing in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.

Education and Experience
1. Must be 21 years of age or older at time of hire.

2. High School Diploma or equivalent.

3. Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred. In lieu of an Associate’s degree, possess a minimum of six years of job related experience in law enforcement/hospital private security setting, or combination of Secondary education and job related experience is required.

4. Previous supervisory experience in law enforcement/hospital private security setting preferred.

5. OPOTA First Line Supervision class or equivalent preferred.

6. Possesses a valid Ohio driver’s license (and ability to obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by the CHMCA insurance carrier’s requirements to operate CHMCA vehicles) and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites.

7. Possess a current OPOTA Basic Police Academy certification.

8. Required to achieve and maintain department’s qualifying firearms standards for duration of employment.

9. Successfully complete a thorough background investigation.

10. Demonstrate psychological fitness commensurate with the role of an armed officer, evaluated by a Psychologist designated by the Department of Public Safety Director and Chief.
