Summary:
Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Mobile Medical Van CDL Driver to join our team. This role plays a vital part in expanding healthcare access by safely transporting and operating our mobile medical units throughout Northeast Ohio. The ideal candidate will be a reliable and professional CDL driver with strong communication skills and a passion for supporting community-based care initiatives.
Responsibilities:
· Operate and drive Akron Children's Mobile Medical Vans (requiring a CDL Class B with air brake endorsement) to designated community sites, schools, and events.
· Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, cleanliness, and readiness.
· Collaborate with medical and support staff to set up the mobile unit, ensuring a smooth workflow and readiness for patient care.
· Maintain detailed and compliant driving records in accordance with DOT regulations and Akron Children's Hospital policies.
· Monitor vehicle performance and coordinate maintenance and repairs with Facilities or Fleet Management.
· Assist with onboard logistics, patient intake flow, and minor administrative support when needed.
· Troubleshoot basic technical issues (generators, HVAC, lift, Wi-Fi) within the unit and coordinate resolutions.
· Ensure all safety and infection control standards are met while the unit is in use.
· Represent Akron Children's Hospital professionally when interacting with patients, families, and community partners.
Other information:
Education and Experience
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B) with air brake endorsement.
· Minimum 2 years of experience operating large vehicles such as buses, RVs, or commercial trucks.
· Clean driving record and ability to pass background check, DOT physical, and drug screening.
· Familiarity with basic vehicle troubleshooting and preventive maintenance procedures.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with physical setup of mobile clinic operations.
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
· Comfortable working with children, families, and diverse populations.
· CPR/First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
