Part Time (24 hours per week)

Primarily 11:00am to 11:00pm Every Saturday and Sunday

Summary:

The Lead Patient Access Service Representative coordinate, with guidance provided by the Supervisor, the daily and/or assigned work load distribution of clerical, systems and systems downtime needs of the Admitting/Access department. That coordination extends to the active and assigned mentoring of staff in the department sufficient to provide assurance of timely and accurate data collection. Secondary functions include coverage to support staff absences.


Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates the needs of the departments with the staff and is aware of the staff workload in an effort to make certain that patients are registered timely and information collected is complete and accurate.

2. Acts as support to the Patient Access Service Representative in answering questions of immediacy and providing coverage.

3. Ensures equipment is functioning properly and communicating with the correct person(s) regarding equipment malfunctions.

4. Registers complete and accurate social, demographic and financial information to create the patient's record in the system.

5. Obtains the appropriate signatures on the necessary forms to treat the patient and to bill the insurance.

6. Prepares forms and patient ID cards.

7. Confirms financial eligibility when applicable.

8. Processes the patient record and financial folders.

9. Maintains/controls on the cash flow of payments and daily deposits.

10. Coordinates Epic downtime processes.

11. Other duties as required.


Technical Expertise
1. Experience working in a hospital-based healthcare enterprise in the registration, insurance verification/pre-certification, patient accounts and/or customer service department(s), is required.

2. Experience with medical terminology knowledge or documented certification of class completion is preferred.

3. Experience with interacting with patient/customers [i.e., neonates/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults and geriatric adults as applicable] with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity is required.

4. Experience working with colleagues, management and other staff as assigned, required.

5. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

6. Epic experience is required.

Education and Experience
1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Certification: None.

3. Years of relevant experience: 3 to 5 years is preferred.

4. Years of experience supervising: None.
