Summary:
The Pulmonary Function Technologist performs diagnostic testing to evaluate patient respiratory health and asses’ respiratory disorders.
Responsibilities:
1. Administers a variety of pulmonary function test, including, but not limited to, spirometry, lung volume measurements, and diffusion capacity studies.
2. Instructs patients and families on proper breathing techniques and ensure their comfort during testing procedures.
3. Calibrate and maintain pulmonary function testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
4. Collaborate with Pulmonologist and other Providers to interpret results and contribute to patient care plans.
5. Document and maintain accurate records of patient information, test results, and other relevant data in the electronic medical record.
6. Educate patients and families about respiratory health, treatment options and lifestyle modifications.
7. Follow established protocols and safety guidelines to ensure a secure and effective testing environment.
8. Participate in department quality initiatives and proficiency in the pulmonary function testing software.
9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
10. Other duties as required.
Other information:
Technical Expertise
- Experience in care of asthma patients with experience in a pediatric PFT laboratory preferred.
- Membership in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) is preferred.
- Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
- Experience in healthcare is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills are required.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
- Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Experience working with an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) is preferred.
Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Care.
Registered Respiratory Therapist credential awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care in Ohio is required.
Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the state of Ohio is required.
Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required; CPFT or RPFT, PALS, and ACLS certification is required within 1 year of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
Years of relevant experience: 2 years’ experience as a pediatric RRT is preferred. Experience in pediatric PFT Lab is preferred.
